Hard to believe, but it's been an entire decade since I married the love of my life. As cliche as it sounds, we've had our ups and downs, and our marriage has been tested, but we're stitched together for life. :)
We were married on June 14, 2003 in Grand Cayman - we had an island getaway wedding and a picture-perfect honeymoon on the beach - complete with white sand and crystal clear bright blue water.
The God we serve is a wonderful loving God. He gave me Mike, knowing that Mike was perfect for me - our strengths and weaknesses both challenge and compliment each other. There is not another soul in this world I'd rather do life with. He has become so much more than my husband...he is my best friend - a term that I don't throw around lightly. When I have the best day, I want to run home and tell him. When I have the worst day, I want to run home into his arms. It's truly like his arms were made to wrap around me...I fit perfectly inside them.
Enough mush (maybe). So, we were blessed (thank you God!!) to be able to go back to Grand Cayman to celebrate our ten years together. We hopped on a plane and flew in the day before (Thursday) and stayed until the following Wednesday. We were able to go to Grand Old House, where we were actually married, and have a romantic dinner at the same spot! It was really kind of surreal, thinking about the fact that it's been TEN YEARS. How can it seem like ages ago and yesterday at the same time?!?!
My parents kept the kids for the entire week we were gone - which gave us the luxury to not worry about them for a minute. We knew they were in good hands and Pop-Pop and Nana had plenty of fun planned for them. We missed them though, actually quite a bit more than we'd anticipated. Anytime we saw a kid playing with their parents on the beach, or running down a hallway, or sitting at a dinner table, we thought about how much fun our own kids would have had if they were with us. Still, we had an amazing time just being a couple for a week - although we did spend half our time on the beach snorkeling for cool sea shells and coral and rocks to bring home to the munchkins. :)
As I reflect back on the week we just had in paradise (literally!) I can't help but feel overwhelmed with blessings. Luxuries in life that I don't deserve have been given to me time and time again...I am thankful to serve a God who has not only saved me, but also blesses me in this life. My hope is that I, we, give glory to Him for all that He has done and will do.
"But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved." Ephesians 2:4-5
